awâsis waciston School, through the awâsis Program, serves the North Edmonton area (52 School Catchment
areas) through a chosen, alternative, Kindergarten (full-day) to Grade 6, program designed to meet the
educational needs of urban First Nations, Métis, and Inuit children while embedding the richness of nêhiyawêwin
(Cree) Language and Culture. Approximately 93% of the students attending awâsis waciston are Indigenous.
Transportation service is provided to families through Edmonton Public Schools.
All Kindergarten-Grade 6 students are provided with a breakfast / snack through the Alberta School Nutrition
Program in partnership with e4c.
Additional community partners supporting students and families include The Family Centre (full-time Success
Coach, and a Roots and Wings Worker), Apple Schools, Bent Arrow Traditional Healing Society (Coyote Pride),
Rotary Club of Edmonton Urban Spirits, amiskwaciy Academy, Spirit North, Edmonton Islamic Academy,
Boilermakers, TELUS World of Science, Holiday Hamper, Edmonton Food Bank, and Indigenous Relations and
Northern Affairs Canada.
